A few things to keep in mind about your ink cartridge
- Don't expose your cartridges to extreme temperatures whether hot or cold. This can cause your ink to leak from the cartridge.
- Remove the clip or tape from the print head of the cartridge. Often customers call and forget or are unaware of this step. The cartridge will not print if the tape or clip is still on the cartridge.
- If your cartridge is not recognized by the printer when you install it, it could be that your contacts are dirty. Take a slightly damp paper towel and gently wipe the contacts on the cartridge.
- Many times cartridges will get a message that falsely claims your ink is low, simply read and follow the instructions on the screen to bypass this message. Use the cartridge until you completely run out of ink.
- If you don't use your printer on a regular basis, at least try to print a page or two a week. The print head on the cartridge has hundreds of tiny nozzles and when the printer is not used regularly the nozzles can become clogged up.
If you think your cartridge is out of ink
- If you feel you haven't printed enough for your cartridge to be out of ink it may be that your print head has dried out. Take a damp paper towel and wipe away any build up of ink on the print head. If this does not solve the problem then simply bring the cartridge in to be checked out.
- Do not put the clip back on the cartridge. Putting the clip back on a color cartridge can contaminate the print head making it unusable. If you have a small box, put the cartridge on its side in the box and this will reduce the likelihood of contamination.
A few things to keep
in mind about your ink cartridge
- Much like an ink cartridge, toner cartridges can be damaged by extreme temperatures that will cause the cartridge not to work properly.
- Some toner cartridges have components that are sensitive to light, so it is important to leave the cartridge in the box until it is time to install into your printer.
- Some cartridges come with a seal that needs to be pulled out before installation. Be sure to remove the seal or the cartridge will not print.
